Usher has made his Broadway debut in the musical Chicago in front of a celebrity-studded full house.

Hollywood faces that included Penelope Cruz, Gabrielle Union and Rosie Perez were among those who came to see him play defence lawyer Billy Flynn. Teenage fans screamed, hooted and whistled as the star shimmied and sang.

"I think music is like a monogamous relationship," he said. "But acting in theatre is like a different woman every night."
