British viewers have voted the final episode of the hit United States sitcom Friends the best thing on television over the past year. The long-awaited climax of the decade-long show ranks top in a list of memorable television broadcasts, such as the end of Sex And The City and David Blunkett's tearful resignation as Home Secretary.
Viewers were asked to vote for the Channel 4 poll of top 100 TV Treats of the Year. Their top 10 highlights include Britain triumphing at the Olympics and Michael Palin's travel programme Himalaya (sixth).
The final episode of Sex And The City, when Big tells Carrie she is the one, has been voted the third-best thing on TV during 2004. When it comes to reality TV, the controversial fifth instalment of Big Brother, which saw sexual antics and violence in the house, took second place on the overall list.
