MEMENTO
After an attack in which his wife was raped and murdered, Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce) now suffers from a sort of short term memory loss where his recollection of new events fades after a few minutes. Despite his handicap, he's trying to unravel the mystery and avenge her death. Relying on hastily scribbled notes and Polaroid photos to establish whether he knows or trusts people, Leonard works backwards, as does the story-telling, which ensures that the audience knows no more than he does. Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), and Joe Pantoliano (Ralphie in The Sopranos) also star in this acclaimed thriller, directed by Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins). Perplexing, stimulating viewing and quite simply one of the best movies in recent times. (2000)

Aaron Eckhart plays a disgraced FBI agent suspended for "forcibly extraditing" a suspected serial killer from Mexico. Sent to the Albuquerque FBI office, he starts getting faxes of missing person reports and it transpires that a killer has murdered at least two people and is faxing clues. He and his partner (Carrie-Anne Moss) work to identify and find him. (2004)
