Christina Sharma sees her role as managing director of Ruby as "being a co-ordinator of young, fresh talented people", a role she clearly relishes.
Sharma began her fashion career in the 1970s, before establishing De Vere Textiles with her partner Vere in the late 80s and then buying Ruby from its founders in 2008. She especially loves having her two daughters involved in the business - Emily as designer and younger daughter Anna-Lise, who works at Ruby Boutique - and being so "inspired by the passion that our young people display and the fresh, free ideas they bring with them". As for what she wears to work, Sharma says it's "anything and everything".
"I love this time in fashion because of being able to wear anything you want together - the freedom and individuality is paramount for me." She tells us more about her distinctive style.
Who are your favourite designers/labels?
I love YSL, Prada, Dior and Chanel on the catwalk as it is so inspirational, but for wearable and attainable clothing, DKNY, See by Chloe and Marc Jacobs are favourite designers to view new season collections.
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
Lululemon exercise wear, last week in Melbourne - it really is such an excellent range and because of its philosophy it is designed for true practicality in exercise.
Who or what inspires you sartorially?
People with passion, as they transfer their dedication into their end garment.
Your favourite accessory?
Has to be shoes. With sunglasses running a close second.
Your favourite shop?
Definitely Selfridges, I just love it. I get so excited going near there as not only is it a beautiful building but the windows are always so amazing which just heightens the visual experience before you even set foot inside to see all the beautiful things.
Your best beauty tip?
Always wear sunscreen on your face.
How do you define the word "fashionable", what does it mean to you?
Fashionable to me is someone who looks great in their skin - be it young, old, small or big - a person who dresses to suit their body, colouring and age.
Whose wardrobe would you most love to raid?
Sienna Miller's. Imagine her shoe collection!
Is there anything you would never wear?
Short shorts.

Better to buy one really good piece than a whole lot of cheap pieces.

My jewellery - which not only involves new pieces but also pieces passed down to me from family with wonderful memories attached to them.
Favourite fashion-y movie, or fashion moment in film?
Definitely the movie Unfolding Florence: The Many Lives Of Florence Broadhurst. I was inspired by her complete dedication to her craft; no matter what odds were stacked against her she continued and never compromised.
Most overrated item in fashion?
Something which is so "now". Just because it's the latest brand does not mean it is tasteful.
Most underrated item in fashion?
A really well-fitting jacket.
What's your favourite decade stylewise?
I love now - there is a freedom in fashion that has evolved over time. Stiffness and formality has gone.
Who is your ultimate fashion plate/style icon?
Jacqueline Kennedy - so chic.
Describe the best outfit you've ever worn?
There are a few, but one that still stands out is a beautiful winter white Keith Matheson fine wool trouser suit, teamed with a black Moschino T-shirt. You could go anywhere and feel fab.
How would you describe your style?
Nothing too serious - just fun and comfy casual with a quirky twist.
Free spirit
