1. Tauranga Farmers' Market
Saturdays 7.45am-12noon. Tauranga Primary School, between Arundel St, Cameron Rd and 5th Ave.
Running for nearly 10 years, the market is a popular winner in the annual market awards, with a lively atmosphere, great seasonal produce and winning stall holders, including Bay Quality Fish Smokers, Wholly Cow cheeses, Mamaku Blue Blueberry Experience, The Chilli Company and Blackadamia.
2. Hobsonville Point Farmers' Market
Sundays 9am-1pm. No. 5 Store, corner of Buckley Ave and Hastings Crescent, Hobsonville Point.
Voted best in Auckland with three of this year's Taste Farmers' Market Award winners the Salmon Man, From the Farm Gate butchery and Naaz Curry Paste. The cool warehouse honours the site's aviation past; stay for the live music, walk or cycle the beautifully landscaped coastal walkway and admire the kids' playground.
3. Hastings Farmers' Market
Sundays 8.30am-12.30pm. Hawkes Bay A&P Showgrounds, Kenilworth Rd, Hastings
One of Hawkes Bay's favourite tourist destinations, in the pretty tree-lined park (or under the stadium in bad weather). Plenty of hot breakfast fare, local stars Holly Bacon, Hohepa cheeses and Te Mata mushrooms and the best fresh produce, it's the highlight of any foodie's visit.
4. Cambridge Farmers' Market
Saturdays 8am to 12 noon. Victoria Square (plus look out for the Te Awamutu twilight market, starts October 4, and Hamilton Sunday markets).
More pretty tree-lined park shopping, terrific baking and coffee to get you started, then stock up on the award-winning Cloudy Mountain cheese, pork from Soggy Bottom Holding and more. Add a spot of vintage shopping, or head off to Karapiro for some pretty off-road cycling.
