Dave Grohl has been many things in his music career: a drummer for Nirvana; the frontman for Foo Fighters; a girl with pigtails; and even Satan in a video by Tenacious D.
Now he's just plain old Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters.
And guess what? In November, with bandmates Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, and Chris Shiflett, he's heading here for two shows, in Auckland and Wellington. Prepare to be rocked New Zealand.
The Foos' latest album, In Your Honour, debuted at No 1 in the New Zealand chart five weeks ago and has since stayed in the top five. The album has sold more than 28,000 copies here, leaving it just short of double platinum status.
After releasing four albums, including the 1997 classic The Colour and the Shape, which features Monkey Wrench and My Hero, the Foos wanted to try something a little different. So they made In Your Honour a double album - one rock record, and one acoustic.
But don't think there's going to be an out-with-your-cellphone, acoustic-type interlude in the middle of each show. In an interview with TimeOut in June, drummer Taylor Hawkins assured us the band would not be playing a specific acoustic set on this tour. They're saving the "bar stool songs" for more intimate venues at a later date.
And Grohl reckons "there will be lasers to blow your [expletive] mind" at the shows.
Unfortunately, due to other commitments, hot new Leeds band the Kaiser Chiefs, who support the Foos in Australia, will not be playing in New Zealand. The local support act will be announced shortly.
Foo Fighters play the Wellington Entertainment Centre on November 25 and the Auckland Supertop on November 26.
Foo for you
