First time director Sally Tran walked away from the Handle the Jandal DIY Music Video Awards with a flip flop for each foot.
Hundreds of people flooded into the Embassy Theatre in Wellington for the ninth annual awards.
Tran's efforts directing Wellington band Charlie Ash's O'Baby saw her awarded the top prize decided by the audience on the night and text votes as well as the prize for best concept.
Marc Smith came second for The Video Kid's DJs Girlfriend and third went to Mark Williams' impressive animated video of Agent Alvin's Who's your Daddy.
Six specialist prizes were also awarded by a panel of industry judges.
Dean Hewison's video of singer Mathew Saville's **** you Orlando, a tribute to the way women swoon over Lord of the Rings Star Orlando Bloom, was a crowd favourite and won the best use of exploitative tactics prize.
Fifteen finalists were selected from 93 videos which had to have no funding and was a New Zealand song.
Event manager Sam Hayes said the quality of this year's entries was high.
"The videos were all individually outstanding. They're packed with brilliant concepts, it's been a treat to see them on the big screen at the Embassy."
