We think belonging to a gym gives you a focus, a starting point, a place where you can exercise in a safe environment, and as a bonus meet other like minded people.
The saying goes "motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going". But where do we get the motivation to begin with? Sometimes we find ourselves waiting for motivation to appear before we start something like exercise or improving our diet. Becoming unmotivated happens to everyone — no one is motivated 100 per cent of the time.
Finding your purpose for doing something is a start. Let's say you have a school reunion coming up and you want to look your best. Your plan is to lose a few kilos and get to the gym to shape up. Or you have a wedding in the near future and you want to look good in the photos so you enlist the help of a personal trainer. Your purpose is the reunion or the wedding. Maybe you have neither of those to focus on — so how do you find your purpose?
We often find when women come to join the gym they already have a purpose — they just want to feel better — for life. They've thought about it for ages and now it's time to put thoughts into action. Does this sound like you? Your good health is the biggest reason to keep your weight down and your fitness up.
We think belonging to a gym gives you a focus, a starting point, a place where you can exercise in a safe environment, and as a bonus meet other like minded people. We want our new members to form a habit of exercise so we devote lots of time supporting them with constant communication and guidance. Once they are working out on a regular basis we boost their support with programme updates and one-on-one time. Often women join the gym and begin with personal training sessions to help with confidence and motivation, and keeping regular appointments all helps foster a good habit.
So find your purpose, make a start and you will find that the motivation to keep going will come from the results you get and the reward system you set up for yourself as you reach your mini goals.
Forming good habits takes persistence, patience and perseverance. It takes time and commitment, but the pay off is worth it. A healthy body is the best feeling in the world.
