"I thought we had an agreement, Ryan," said Mrs Winters. "You were going to show me how well you could do your maths homework if you really tried."
"But I had soccer on two nights," replied Ryan, "and piano lessons."
"Ryan," said the teacher, in a concerned voice, "you've had since Monday to do this homework, and it's Thursday now."
"Sorry."
Ryan knew that if he told her the real reason he hadn't done his homework she'd be even more concerned. The trouble was, maths just didn't interest him. All those numbers on the board, and sums just for the sake of doing sums! Nothing to do with real life. It sent him to sleep. He'd rather be outdoors, getting some exercise, breathing fresh air, playing soccer.
