Feelstyle dominates Pacific Music Awards

Tha Feelstyle steals the show.

Is this the start of the Scribe backlash? Last year the Samoan rapper won every award there was - the Tuis, the bnets awards and the APRA Silver Scroll.

But last night, at the inaugural Pacific Music Awards, Scribe was beaten by Tha Feelstyle (real name Kas Futialo).

Tha Feelstyle, up against both Scribe and Dei Hamo, won best Pacific hip-hop artist and best Pacific male artist for his album, Break it to Pieces. He also won best Pacific song for Su'amalie/Ain't Mad At You which was up against Ardijah's Journey (Aere'anga) and Getting Stronger by Adeaze.

The Pacific Music Awards were presented at a ceremony after a concert celebrating the opening of the Pasifika Festival, on today at Western Springs.

Tha Feelstyle may have stolen the show with three awards but the main prize, the best Pacific album, went to veteran funk/soul band Ardijah for Journey. The best Pacific album category is also part of the New Zealand Music Awards (the Tuis) which are held later in the year.

The Pacific Music Awards were started to help grow and develop the genre.

Best Pacific hip-hop artist: Tha Feelstyle - Break it to Pieces

Best Pacific male artist: Tha Feelstyle - Break it to Pieces

Best Pacific music album: Ardijah - Journey

Best Pacific song: Kas Futialo & Ian Seumanu - Su'amalie/Ain't Mad At You
