Fat Freddy's Drop wins major BBC award

Wellington band Fat Freddy's Drop has won a major BBC music award in London.

The dub/reggae band's album, Based on a True Story, won worldwide album of the year at the annual Radio 1 Gilles Peterson Worldwide Music Awards.

The awards ceremony was held in Camden on December 12, but the results were only released last night.

Fat Freddy's Drop was the star of this year's New Zealand Music Awards in October after winning the people's choice award, best group, album of the year and best Aotearoa roots album for Based On A True Story.
