KEY POINTS:
With just under a fortnight to go, we round up the latest news and updates on Air New Zealand Fashion Week
A stylish place to hang out
Workers backstage at Fashion Week were always a little jealous of the space Pavement magazine used to occupy. Mostly it was a comfy area, complete with couches and a drinks fridge, and would often become the hang-out for models, stylists, their friends and staff of the magazine. The space has been taken over by the lovely people from Stephen Marr hair and beauty salons. It looks to be even more exciting than in the past. The area is being decorated by local artists' collective, Gambia Castle, with a domestic scene from deliciously surreal movie Science of Sleep. Sponsors lovejuice will be providing the healthy drinks and Motorola will be handing out the mobile phones, with which Marr staff will be taking pictures of runway shows and backstage action. They will then post these directly on to the website www.stephenmarr.co.nz
Band on the runway
Somewhere in the depths of Ponsonby there's a band rehearsing for their big Fashion Week debut. Mean Street are a group that's been specially put together for designer Adrian Hailwood's show. Hailwood has even designed outfits for the members. But that's all we can tell you for now - you'll need to wait for reports on the Hailwood show to find out who, where and what they played.
Figures from history
Local label NZGirl will be designing the official Fashion Week T-shirts this year. They will be based around figures in local fashion history - exactly which figures will be announced soon - and will be available at NZGirl's stores and from their website.
Island refreshments
When they're not watching fashion shows, some of the VIP guests at Fashion Week have been known to float across the harbour to sample the delights of Waiheke Island. It seems to be an established part of the foreign media's tourist trail. If they do that this year, the Sandbar is ready for them. Owner John McMahon has designed a fruity cocktail especially for Fashion Week visitors. Should you find yourself in need of similar refreshment, or perhaps glamour, the recipe follows below:
OCEAN VIEW COCKTAIL
30 ml fresh, squeezed lemon juice
30ml vanilla syrup
30ml Ocean Spray Ruby Red grapefruit juice
50ml Grey Goose Vodka
scoop of ice
cocktail cherry
Shake vigorously, and pour into martini glass. Place cherry to sink in bottom of glass.
