Behind the scenes of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week with Mac senior make up artist Amber Dreadon.
KEY POINTS:
FRIDAY: Day number 5... The final day!
The week has gone by so fast and I'm now struggling to remember which shows I did on which days - I even needed to double check what show I did earlier today it's been so mad!
Today kicked off with a standard 6.45am call time at the fashion week venue to work on the makeup team for Mad Cortes.
Pop art, Andy Warhol and almost-painted looking makeup were the makeup references for this show.
MAC Australia's senior makeup artist Nicola Burford designed a graphic and striking makeup with colour as the feature.
Eyelids were painted with a block of MAC Otherworldly Paint Pot - a bright turquoise - and then a 60s inspired eyeline was applied using Blacktrack Fluidline.
A reddy-orange combo of MAC blush was roughly applied to the centre corners of the eyebrows and skin was kept opaque but not heavy using MAC Face and Body Foundation.
While Nicola and I were discussing the merits of the inspiration for the show, a hairdresser hastily breezed past us and proclaimed that "new things are simply old things that have been forgotten".
As soon as he had arrived he had disappeared again... most likely off to spray obscene amounts of hair product onto some young model's head... half of which we have been inhaling all week; having to work on models' faces while the hair teams work their magic.
This is fairly common in the last half hour before a show starts, when models who are late from the show before turn up and the MAC makeup artists usually end up working two or three to one face in the hope of getting the makeup finished - which of course we always do!
For my afternoon today I directed the makeup for Jacqui Alexander's show.
I wanted to create a sexy dark eye that was still relevant to the season (summer) so we layered MAC Blacktrack Fluidline, carbon and brown script eyeshadows for an eye that was matte and heavy but there was a hint of a more burnt red-brown that kept the summer feel.
Skin was kept lightweight and we only used foundation if they really needed it... Which, of course, most didn't.
Lips were a mix of pink vivid and dusty coral paintsticks that created a pop pink shade. That sat brightly on the skin.
The makeup for this show was finished alarmingly on time... which left me with a nervous worry that I had forgotten something... or that suddenly something unexpected was going to happen, but it never did.
My MAC makeup team were just so fast and that makes life so much easier!
It is now midnight and I am struggling to keep my eyes open as I write this.
It has been the best week... MAC teams working on over 42 shows, over 60 MAC makeup artists doing makeup on countless beauties, and something like a zillion boxes of tissues used... give or take a few billion!
It's sad that it's all over and i'll have to leave behind the wonderfully talented and hugely funny MAC team here, but I also simply cannot wait to have a day in bed!
See you next year Rosemount Australian fashion week.
