Sculptural silver jewels with an artisanal bent take centre stage for spring

While chain stores and high street fashion retailers do a great job shifting product week after week, when it comes to jewellery, designs straight from the original creative sources provide plenty of inspiration for those wanting something special.

Artisan jewellers are experiencing a new-found revival in a sea of familiar shapes and styles, with new inspiration to be found from the likes of Tauranga-based jeweller Nat Peri and her label, Natalia Peri Jewellery; and Auckland-based Emily Pearce of Embr Jewellery, whose collection consists of sculptural earrings and geometric rings etched with unique grooves and kinks for something unique for the wearer.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SILVER

Regular cleaning can maintain the shine of your silver jewellery. Look to commercial cleaners or try a simple homemade method:

• Mix one cup of boiling water with 1 Tbsp of salt and 1 Tbsp of baking soda.
• Pour the mixture into a flat pan lined with tinfoil (shiny side up).
• Gradually add ½ cup of vinegar.
• Let jewellery sit for 5-10 minutes.
• Rinse in water and lay on a towel to dry. Once dried, use a professional polishing cloth as tissue and paper towels can cause scratching.
