Shoes can make all the difference to your look, says footwear designer Lilah Winchester.
Lilah Winchester may be based at Mt Maunganui, but don't expect beachwear and jandals - her style is more grunge than resort and reflects her travels.
"I have an eclectic mix of statement pieces from around the world, all with amazing stories behind them."
Winchester is one-half of recently launched hand-crafted footwear label SevenDeadlySins, sold through Evolution stores where she also works as buyer.
Unsurprisingly, she counts a pair of "knock-out shoes" as one of the most important elements of any wardrobe. She tells us more about her look.
Who does the best shoes?
I absolutely adore Balenciaga because of the hardware accessories, like their use of buckles and chains. Their footwear, like their clothing, is grunge with glamour, which I love.
What designers do you admire?
I really enjoy designers that challenge me with their quirkiness, like Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen.
What designers or brands do you wear most?
All Saints in Britain, and I love anything from Urban Outfitters. Edgy nonchalance with a designer edge, without the huge price tag.
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
Leather panelled leggings - comfort and style that will amp up my winter wardrobe.
What item of clothing or accessory do you want to buy next?
Fine, luxurious knitwear is back with a vengeance this winter and I can't wait to get my hands on some. Big, oversized and with button details.
Your favourite fashion accessory?
I have a fur gilet that's my current favourite. I can throw it over everything.
What fashion item would you be lost without?
My black skinny jeans.
What do you really want this coming season?
A big, cosy fur coat - I am loving fur at the moment.
Your favourite shop?
A small vintage store on Crown St in Sydney - it's a perfect example that good fashion never dates.
What's your fragrance?
Viktor & Rolf Flower Bomb.
Whose wardrobe would you most like to raid?
Kate Moss' because she's got that amazing mix of grunge, glamour and elegance that few others can pull off.
What do you wear to work?
Depending on the day, as my job can vary so much, I usually go for smart comfort with an edge.
Best sartorial advice you ever had?
Your shoes say the most about you, so make sure they're good.
Most cherished fashion item?
My rings. I have picked them up over the years from my travels. Most of them are from Thailand and one special one is from India.
Most underrated item in fashion?
Canvas kung fu flats. When I'm not in heels I'm wearing these.
What are you wearing right now?
Skinnys, my sevenDeadlySins black leather cuff sandals, a singlet and baggy knit cardie.
Describe your style
I love exploring new trends and making them my own. I think I tend towards glamour with a grungy twist.
What is your handbag - and what's in it?
A cream snakeskin bag I picked up at the markets in Sydney. In it is my Blackberry, Lucas pawpaw ointment, my perfume, M.A.C lipstick, my diary, a few pens and a bunch of receipts.
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
If I'm just off to the office, I'm ready in half an hour.
