Magazine editor Justine Williams likes to keep up to the minute.
Justine Williams began as the new editor of Simply You and Simply You Living nearly two months ago, with her first issue of the second magazine being released last weekend.
Williams, who worked as the beauty and fashion editor at the NZ Woman's Weekly for six years and studied fashion design at AIT (now AUT), has an approach to style typical of that of a busy fashion editor. "Fashionable to me means knowing your style and taking ownership of it. Plucking pieces from current trends and applying them to your own framework," she explains. "Pants and jackets have always been my thing - I tweak the cut, play with the colour palette or change the accessories to stay 'fashionable'."
We find out more about her wardrobe and style.
What was the last item of clothing you bought?
A black quilted, tan leather trimmed, knee length coat from Ralph Lauren - perfect for shoot days and weekends.
What item of clothing or accessory do you want to buy next?
A Louis Vuitton Keepall for travelling and one of the new white ceramic Rado watches.
What's the one thing everyone should have in their wardrobe?
The perfect black suit jacket and new underwear.
What endures throughout the seasons?
Jeans that fit perfectly and great quality T-shirts.
What's your biggest guilty pleasure?
Handbags - for me it's always been about handbags.
Your favourite shop, locally?
Day Birger et Mikkelsen from Smith and Caughey's always has something I love, and Country Road always has something I need.

My cashmere and fox fur Gucci scarf.
What one item from your wardrobe do you put on and immediately feel great in?
My 12-year-old Scanlan & Theodore racer back maxi dress and my black wool top from New Zealand label Obi.
Who are your favourite designers?
Internationally I adore anything Phoebe Philo does. Slightly closer to home, Australian label Scanlan and Theodore is brilliant for modern classic styling. Locally, I love Cybele for beautiful pieces and Ashley Fogel for cashmere and well-cut classics.
Your best beauty tip?
Look after the basics, healthy well-cut hair, clean white teeth, a clean hydrated complexion and most importantly good eyebrows - the girls at Off Wax and Brow Bar are my not-so-secret weapon.
What do you wear to work?
A lot of black trousers - wide and straight leg and a good mix of jackets and scarves.
What do you wear when you're relaxing at home?
You just don't want to know - but it is very comfortable.
Who is your ultimate fashion plate?
Emmanuelle Alt and Ines de la Fressange. They both capture the essence of "fashionable".
What is your handbag - and what's in it?
It's a large black Gucci 1973 tote, and in it is a red Lancome lipstick, Kiehls lip balm, wallet, iPhone and Blackberry, Moleskine notebook, business cards and spare hair ties.
The one rule you always dress by?
Does it fit properly and do I look like me?
Leopard print: yes or no?
Yes - handled very carefully.
Best outfit you've ever worn?
A Wonder Woman outfit made for me by an art director at Lintas Advertising in the 1970s - kindy graduation was a big moment.
