LONDON - Former East 17 star Brian Harvey was critically ill in hospital after a mysterious incident in which he was run over by his own car.
Harvey, the lead singer of the boy band, was crushed after he fell from his convertible Mercedes car while reversing out of his home in Walthamstow, east London, just before 2am, police said.
"The man, in his early 30s, was taken by the ambulance service to an east London hospital suffering from multiple injuries," a police spokesman said.
"His condition is still described as critical."
Police said Harvey appeared to have fallen from the driver's seat of the car and investigations were underway into exactly what had happened.
"The man was alone in the car at the time," the spokesman said. "No other drivers were involved."
East 17 had a string of hits in the 1990s, including a Christmas number one with "Stay", but split when Harvey was sacked from the band after he admitted taking drugs.
