Peter Thornley and the Simunovich family of seafood and now olive oil fame have joined forces to open Bracu, a restaurant housed in the olive estate's old kauri homestead at Bombay.
Thornley, known for his work with Icon at Te Papa in Wellington, French Farm near Akaroa, and most recently Soul Bar in Auckland, plans to feature simple food crafted with a sophisticated twist. Daniel Kemp, of Taupo's The Bach and Kemp Rare Wine Merchants, has put together a list offering over 60 wines by the glass.
Enhanced experiences at Bracu (pronounced Bra-koo) include dining in the Rare Wine Library, a 2500-bottle cellar, or at a table in the kitchen with Thornley and his team.
Or try the verandah overlooking the 30,000 olive trees in New Zealand's largest privately owned grove.
The produce of some of which is being turned into cosmetics by the enterprising family.
Bracu, 49 Main Rd, Bombay, open for brunch, lunch and dinner.
