As the new manager of Kate Sylvester's Newmarket store, Rachel Firman has managed to accumulate a bit of the label already.
Who are your favourite fashion designers?
Kate Sylvester, of course. Her clothes make you feel beautiful. They can be fun, flirty, sexy, sophisticated, and her fabrics are exquisite. Also Alexander McQueen. I'm in love with his fall '05 collection. I want everything.
What is your favourite accessory of the moment?
The butterfly clasp belt I discovered in a box of treasures at a church op-shop. I won't tell you where as it's my secret stash.
What are the staple pieces for a good wardrobe?
Clothes that make you feel good. Wardrobe choices should be based around lifestyle. For me, I'd have to say invest in a couple of dresses this season and wear them in the day with a piece of light knitwear over or under. Pull on some tights and boots and you're set. At night, team the same dress with heels and glowing skin. Lingerie that creates a good line and makes you feel sexy is a must.
What is the last item of clothing you bought?
My Kate Sylvester Sydney cardy, which I tie at the waist over my high-waisted pants and dresses, or wear loose with jeans and flatties. The merino is so fine and soft. Perfect for this time of the year.
Favourite hotels?
I worked at this great little boutique hotel in Colorado - Hotel Frisco. Every room was themed differently and lovingly decorated. There was snow at the doorstep, a big open fire to warm up by and the smell of coffee brewing every morning.
What is your beauty routine?
Mornings I keep simple - I'm always running late. Evolu's Relaxing Creme Cleanser is scrummy and Clarin's Multi-Active Serum is amazing. I use Clarins Beauty Flash Balm when I've had a big night. Eye-cream is a must.
What can't you live without?
White chocolate M&M's and creme brulee. Yummy. Off the subject of food, I'd have to say my collection of vintage boots. They got me through last winter and I'm still wearing them.
Who does the best handbags?
Good question. I'm not a handbag girl. I love the freedom of walking confidently down the street with only my eftpos card in my pocket.
Worst fashion mistake?
Designing and making a dress the afternoon before the night out literally ended in tears. Oh, and did I mention the spiral perm I got when I was 12?
What was the last CD you bought?
When I was in Christchurch for two months I forgot my CD case. I bought The Cure's Greatest Hits to get me through.
What was the last book you read?
Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. An easy, entertaining read.
Who cuts your hair?
Mobeen Bhikoo at Stephen Marr's Newmarket salon.
What item of makeup would you be lost without?
Definitely blush or something to add colour to the cheeks. At the moment I'm using Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Breezy by M.A.C. Trucco Afterglow is a beautiful, subtle bronzer that works well for a bit of colour.
What's your idea of relaxation?
Can't think of anything more relaxing than the beach with a good book, although delicious food and wine with good company would be my winter alternative.
What's your biggest indulgence?
Last week I had an hour-long massage at Lucy and The Powder Room at Stephen Marr Newmarket. I'm fussy when it comes to massages and this one was to die for.
What inspires you?
Being outdoors and out of Auckland. Nature - I'm always in awe of it. There's such a huge palette of colour and texture. When I need to gather my thoughts, I usually go to the beach.
