Lucy Vincent-Marr left school on her 15th birthday to start work in a small Nelson salon. Almost 17 years later, she's still hairdressing.
She arrived in Auckland 10 years ago and met husband Stephen Marr at his Ponsonby Rd salon, Stephen Marr Hair. Together, they've moved the salon up the road to a larger site and opened a Newmarket salon with a cool beauty therapy spot upstairs.
Who are your favourite fashion designers?
Primarily Nom*D, Karen Walker, Miss Crabb and Cybele. I pretty much only buy New Zealand clothes. I also love Fast & Loose.
What do you wear to work?
At the moment anything light and comfortable. I'm pregnant and living in these cute little old man shorts by Fast & Loose and an electric blue halterneck dress from Karen Walker.
What is your favourite accessory of the moment?
Being pregnant, this can change frequently. [At the moment it's] my husband.
What are the staple pieces for a good wardrobe?
Good boots definitely and a couple of good belts. I've got a couple of amazing Nom*d belts and I live in them.
What is the last item of clothing you bought?
Now you've caught me out. A fur jacket - it's pest fur, though.
Favourite hotels?
Steve and I both love the W and the Establishment in Sydney.
What's your beauty routine?
I have facials at the Powder Room [upstairs at Stephen Marr, Newmarket] whenever I can find the time. The multi-vitamin power facials are the bomb.
What can't you live without?
At the moment, air conditioning.
Who cuts your hair?
Anyone from the salon. It's something I'm not particularly keen on as I find I could be doing so many other things.
What item of makeup would you be lost without?
Lip gloss. I love the stuff. Trucco's clear gloss is the best.
What's your idea of relaxation?
Reading a book by the sea with absolutely no noise, no telly and no music - just peace and quiet.
What's your biggest indulgence?
Ummm ... it has to be boots. Just when I think I've got enough, some little beauties pop right up.
What inspires you?
Hanging out with Steve in other cities and chatting about ideas. We have a lot of fun together.
