During the week Lorna Storm works at Zambesi. At the weekend she has her own alternative music show on television.
The former lead singer with rock band Total Magenta says the two roles are the ideal combination for her two passions, music and fashion. "For me, music and fashion are quintessentially linked."
Though new to TV presenting, Storm is enjoying playing her favourite tracks on Alt TV (UHF Channel 62, Auckland), a new free-to-air 24-hour music channel for the Auckland region. "I like to feature overlooked music from today and the past, which can be anything from The Arcade Fire to Woody Guthrie."
Storm, on television between 4pm to 6pm on Saturday, is also the poster girl for edgy Auckland label Miss Crabb.
Who are your favourite fashion designers?
Zambesi's Elisabeth Findlay. I recently heard Zambesi compared to a Tim Burton movie, which I found amusingly appropriate. Liz is the most beautifully presented woman. Margi Robertson of Nom*D. I've been a Nom*D fan forever, it's so darkly New Zealand. The winter collection is inspired - I love all the red wool. Kristine Crabb of Miss Crabb. I've totally fallen for her. She used me for her new campaign. She is a genius.
What do you wear to work?
Zambesi, Nom*D, Martin Margiela, Dirk Bikkembergs. I'm very lucky.
What is your favourite accessory of the moment?
My platinum and gold necklace. It's the one thing I am always wearing.
What is your biggest fashion indulgence?
My hair. You wouldn't pick it though, my friends call me Woodstock after the scruffy little bird with sticking up hair in Snoopy.
What is your beauty routine?
I use Dr Hauschka's Cleansing Milk and Quince Day Cream and Shiseido Ultra Light Sun Block Lotion SPF30.
What can't you live without?
My dog Bob - he's a miniature chocolate poodle and a complete darling. He turns five this Christmas.
Who does the best handbags?
Coco and Franc from Zambesi - I like their vintage references. They only do small runs of handbags which is unusual, and use luxuriant leathers.
What was the last CD you bought?
Cold Rose by Ryan Adams. It's a double album. He just blows me away.
What was the last book you read?
Noodle Pillows by Peta Mathias. Peta is divine. She looks fabulous, writes brilliant books, presents her own television shows and teaches cookery classes that she finishes with a song. I always leave teary eyed.
Who cuts your hair?
It's a combined effort by Monique Walker, Ejay Stickson, and Sascha Bailey all from Rodney Wayne Mt Eden. They are the coolest girls. For my TV show Storm Tiffany Jeans does my hair and makeup. We have a lot of fun, she's an extremely talented stylist.
What item of makeup would you be lost without?
Shiseido Advanced Volume Mascara in black.
Any style icons?
Keith Richards and Anita Pallenberg.
The essential item for summer?
A Mala Brajkovic hoodie for after sundown at the beach. Oh, and a "Stop Your Sobbing" handkerchief from Kate Sylvester.
Latest buy?
My Karen Walker navy blue Amelia sunglasses. I love them. I can't take them off so at night I wear them as a headband.
Favourite colour?
Cherry Red. It's my favourite flavour.
Favourite store of the moment?
Champagne Taste in Point Chevalier. It's the best place to buy vintage presents.
What's your idea of relaxation?
Indulging in an unhurried dinner at Umu restaurant in Coromandel with family and friends. Graeme Fraser's menu is heavenly.
Best outfit, ever?
For the opening of the Zambesi retrospective at the Auckland Museum (this year) I wore a navy printed 80s dress with a silk, baby blue hand-painted house coat, both from the Zambesi archives, with my old Skellerup sandshoes. It was a wonderful night and my date, Brad, looked devastatingly handsome.
What do you wear when you're hanging out at home?
All my favourite things at once. I wear gumboots quite a bit. I live in a bach in Devonport with my best friend and her two little kids. We spend a lot of time on the mud flats or in the garden.
Best fashion bargain, ever?
My winter Dries Van Noten jacket from Scotties' recycle. To the wonderful woman who put it up for adoption, thank you.
