Jo Urlich can't recall when she last bought a New Zealand label. Her wardrobe reflects the regular trips overseas she makes as part of her job running a travel company that specialises in the luxury market.
"I was a firm fan of Zambesi, Karen Walker and Helen Cherry but I don't think I've bought anything local for well over a year. What I like about buying clothes overseas is that my wardrobe is much more individual."
Urlich is also marketing manager for one of Auckland's most luxurious resorts, Westbury Estate in Karaka.
So far this year she has done her shopping in Dubai, New York, Sydney and Los Angeles and her staple wardrobe includes Zara, Witchery, DKNY, Marc Jacobs, and Paul and Joe.
Who are your favourite designers?
Most of my favourite designers are based overseas such as Marc Jacobs, Prada, Catherine Malandrino and Rebecca Taylor - but also Zambesi and Helen Cherry locally.
What do you wear to work?
Generally Seven or Paper Denim & Cloth jeans with a T-shirt and blazer and my Moschino boots, or a dress or skirt with vintage boots. When I'm seeing clients or have meetings I'll go a little more dressy and wear something like Costume National pants and a shirt or a dress and heels.
What is your favourite accessory of the moment?
My Prada gold-and-green aviator sunglasses and my very high green, purple and yellow Prada heels.
What are the staple pieces for a good wardrobe?
Good jeans, good jacket, boots and well-cut black pants.
What do you wear when you're relaxing at home?
I'm all about comfort normally - tracksuit pants.
What is your biggest fashion indulgence?
Without a doubt, shoes.
What is the last item of clothing you bought?
Just did a big shopping trip in New York and bought quite a bit of stuff. The last thing I bought was a Donna Karan peach silk top and Michael Kors flat gold Grecian style sandals.
Favourite hotels?
The Westbury is perfect for an indulgent treat. It really is luxury and great for entertaining. I also love 60 Thompson in Soho. You can't beat the location and the rooftop bar with views over Manhattan. I also love Eichardt's Private Hotel in Queenstown and Babalshams in Dubai - it's an oasis in the desert.
What is your beauty routine?
Don't really stick to a routine but I always take my makeup off no matter what time I get home.
What can't you live without?
While it drives me crazy, I can't live without my Blackberry.
Who does the best bags?
I recently bought a Mulberry handbag and a cute green Marc Jacobs one too. But love the Fendi Spy bags.
Who cuts your hair?
Mobeen Bhikoo at Stephen Marr in Newmarket.
What item of makeup would you be lost without?
When travelling, I totally rely on Blistex.
Who inspires you?
Oprah Winfrey. She's one of the most powerful women in the United States, against all the odds. I love Richard Branson's fun approach to business.
What's your idea of relaxation?
Massages, facials - any form of pampering.
What's your favourite look?
I'm totally into pretty girly dresses at the moment. I can't wait for summer.
Best outfit?
Don't know that I've ever had one.
