* Peter Brown, artist, died age 84.
Peter Brown, a New Zealand artist whose work can be found in public and private collections round the world, has died aged 84.
Brown began his artistic training at Elam School of Fine Art in Auckland after World War II. He tutored at the school, at the same time becoming a member of the Rutland Group, an Auckland-based circle of artists whose work in the 1950s was considered radical for the times.
Brown undertook further training at the Slade School in London, where he was mentored by distinguished English artist Augustus John, then near the end of his career.
Brown's paintings can be found in the Royal Scottish Academy, the American Watercolour Society and the Royal Society of Portrait Artists in England, as well as galleries in New Zealand.
He is survived by his wife Catherine, a son and a daughter.
