J.D. Fortune showed us all on Rockstar INXS - the show he won to become the frontman and singer of INXS - that he is a born entertainer. He is easily the best singer the group has had since Michael Hutchence died in 1997. No disrespect to our Jon Stevens, but the ring-ins in those interim years were terrible, and didn't fit.
J.D. on the other hand, who sounds scarily like Hutchence at times, fits the part pretty perfectly. He writes a reasonable song, too, co-writing two tracks here. You need to hear only first single Pretty Vegas, swaggering along like a Velvet Revolver track, to realise this is a lively new INXS.
The album does falter with some flaky balladry (Afterglow) and the squawking saxophone break-outs are dated to say the least. But while it's not exactly Kick, or Listen Like Thieves, songs like Pretty Vegas, Hot Girls and Perfect Strangers are slick and sexy enough to revive Hutchence-era INXS. But that man is, of course, irreplaceable.
So let's move on because with a frontman like J.D. - providing the bad boy we saw on the TV show doesn't come out - INXS now can.
