Eminem splits from Kim Mathers - again

DETROIT - In a case that illustrates that art does not always imitate life, rap singer Eminem has filed for divorce from his wife Kim Mathers.

The split comes less than three months after he made the headlines by remarrying her.

The Grammy- and Oscar-winning rapper and Mathers remarried on January 14, a month after the couple announced they were getting back together.

Their first marriage ended after around two years in October 2001 in an ugly legal fight that included a custody battle over their daughter, Hailie.

Eminem has frequently brought his personal life into his music, using his tormented relationship with Kim - his high school sweetheart - as a source of his catchy rhymes.

He often expressed in his lyrics that his wife deserved a better deal from life - but, with this week's news, he apparently isn't going to be the one to provide that support.

The pair grew up in the rough suburbs of northern Detroit, the inspiration for the setting of his film 8 Mile.
