Taking off
Zambesi, fresh from designing the national airline's uniform, is the major recipient of the Air New Zealand Fashion Week Export Awards. Murray Crane of Little Brother wins the other award. With a combined value of $55,000, the awards help an established and an emerging exporter boost their business with international travel. Zambesi, which has been exporting since 1988, picks up around two-thirds of the cash and Crane the rest.
Last year's winners were Karen Walker and Insidious Fix, with Walker choosing to share her prize with Adrian Hailwood.
Street style
City workers can watch Fashion Week on the big screen in High St, thanks to Air New Zealand. All the shows will be screened from 11am daily in the heart of Auckland's fashion district in Freyberg Place. Models will exhibit an outfit each day as part of a public competition to guess the designer. The lucky winner gets travel vouchers and show tickets. Get your entry coupon from the Herald each day.
Dusted down
Tamsin Cooper, above, was one of the trade hall exhibitors readying her range for buyers yesterday. The Arrowtown-based designer has set up a stand for the week and hopes silk accessories and clothes will catch the eye of delegates. Beautifully embroidered and beaded, the range, which includes divine wraps, is worth a look.
Ways to watch
C4 is screening highlights all week at 7.30pm and 10.30pm. Not quite front row, but at least you won't have to worry about your wardrobe. If you do want to catch the live atmosphere, the public can buy tickets to the five Best of Shows on Thursday and Friday. Tickets through Ticketek.
Tomorrow
Fashion Week's most authoritative coverage comes from the Herald's Viva team, headed by editor Fiona Hawtin. Every day this week read their reports on what really happened on an off the runway. Watch out tomorrow for a special 40-page issue of Viva in the Herald's print edition, the most fashionable read in town.
