Elton John coming to Wellington

Pop singer Elton John is coming to Wellington in apparently his only New Zealand concert.

Details are still being completed but Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast told The Dominion Post: "My understanding is negotiations are well advanced and going very well.

"I'm holding December 6 (free) in my diary."

Sir Elton last played in the capital at Athletic Park in 1984, and once confirmed, will perform at Wellington's Westpac Stadium following concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the newspaper reported.

"The only concert in New Zealand, it's going to be huge for Wellington and I have no doubts that 40,000 seats are going to sell," Ms Prendergast said.
