A young woman who died of cancer this week had volunteered with the Breast Cancer Foundation without telling people about her condition.
Jenna Slaven, 27, was farewelled yesterday in Auckland. Despite being gravely ill, Slaven had volunteered for the Breast Cancer Foundation and did not disclose she had the disease.
Adele Gautier of the foundation said Jenna helped during the Pink Star Walk last October. "How wonderful that she gave so much when she was going through so much herself," she said.
Her long-term partner Morgan Sutton-Walsh said he was struggling to come to terms with his loss. "I wake up in the morning and I just feel absolutely lonely even though I am surrounded with family for support," Morgan, 26, said on Friday.
"Then I think about Jenna and remember she had to wake up knowing she was going to die."
