Dr Who knocks Star Trek from top position

The adventures of sci-fi hero Dr Who have been voted the most popular cult TV show by British viewers.

The Time Lord topped a list of weird and wonderful shows stretching back more than 30 years.

Dr Who knocked American sci-fi series Star Trek from the No 1 position in the annual poll by the website Cult TV. The US show had held top spot since the first survey in 1994. In third place was Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Dr Who returned to British screens this year.
