The second thing that happened, was that not long after Arabella started school, the Fawcetts moved in next door.

Early one Saturday morning, a furniture lorry pulled up in the street, the back doors opened and a most peculiar family sprang out, followed by a yapping dog. The four members of the family all wore white gymnastic costumes.

"Good morning!" boomed Mr Fawcett to the Armitages, who had gathered at the front gate to greet their new neighbours. "My name is Frank Fawcett! This is my wife, Frances!"

Mrs Fawcett vaulted elegantly through the air, Mr Fawcett caught her around the waist, raised her over his head, then set her down gently at his side.

"These are our two children, Fiona and Phil!" went on Mr Fawcett.

Fiona and Phil clambered over their parents and stood upright on their shoulders.

"And this is our dog Fido, the springer spaniel!" cried Mr Fawcett.
