LONDON - The BBC is selling classic episodes of "Doctor Who" and "Red Dwarf" for viewing on mobile phones, anticipating that fans of cult science fiction are often among the first to adopt new technology.
The broadcaster's commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, has partnered with mobile phone content firm ROK Player to sell special multimedia memory cards known as digital video chips (DVC), which can be inserted into compatible mobile phones.
A DVC with a special episode of "Doctor Who" and three episodes of "Red Dwarf", which will be sold at Nokia stores and through the ROK Player website, will cost 17 pounds. ROK Player also offers music videos and films such as "Wallace and Gromit" and "The Shawshank Redemption".
