It's usually a treat if someone invites you over for a meal as it means you don't have to cook - but these stories from traumatised diners may make you want to decline your next dinner party invitation.

People shared their tales of the worst meals they've ever eaten at someone else's house, and they will make your stomach turn, wrote The Daily Mail.

From undercooked chicken topped with strawberry yoghurt and an orange slice to a rice dish that contained tiny stones that had to be eaten by hand, diners were lucky to escape food poisoning after eating these vile concoctions.

Diners shared their worst stories on a Reddit thread after user LanguineO asked: "What's the worst meal you've ever been served in someone's home?"

Nearly 9,000 people replied with their tales of woe and the thread has been upvoted 16,000 times as it is full of disgusting but hilarious stories.

One diner threw up after entering the kitchen while their grandmother was cooking corned beef because the smell was so bad.

Meanwhile, a vegan said that they were once given a bowl of sunflower seeds while the rest of the party enjoyed a hot meal - even though they had asked the host not to bother feeding them.
