While the country's top designers are putting finishing touches to their collections to be shown at this year's New Zealand Fashion Week, student designers hoping to one day follow in their footsteps are also calming pre-show nerves.
Fifty-six fledgling designers from AUT's School of Art and Design fashion programme will present their own collections at an annual fashion show, Cut One Right Side Up.
Held on the final day of Fashion Week, the show is a chance to see 168 outfits from the up-and-coming designers, who could well be the stars of future Fashion Weeks.
They will present garments in three categories: apparel, costume and knitwear.
From what we have seen so far, the designs are impressive.
Student Ingrid Starnes, who designed the green vintage top (above) was inspired by 1920s glamour coupled with Middle Eastern nomads. "To capture the romantic feminine theme I have layered silks with vintage lace and featured intricately textured hand beading," she says.
The first student show to be held as part of Fashion Week, Cut One Right Side Up is open to the public and held in Aotea Square from 8pm on October 24. Tickets are $25 from Ticketek.
