Australians have picked up six out of the 12 gongs at the inaugural MTV Music Awards in Sydney. Delta Goodrem was voted best female artist, while Shannon Noll took out the best male category at the MTV Australia Video Awards (AVMA's) at Sydney's Luna Park.
A host of big-name international acts were on hand, including former Playboy playmate Anna-Nicole Smith, ex-Baywatch babe Carmen Electra, and the Osbourne family.
Goodrem arrived in the country from Britain this week and said she had not had time to think about winning an award. Goodrem and boyfriend Brian McFadden sang a duet, Almost Here. "It's a break-up song so it's not exactly romantic to sing to somebody, but it's a song that I absolutely love and I'm proud to have on my album, so it's great to sing," Goodrem said.
Noll, who sang a duet with American Bryan Adams, said it was a great feeling just to be involved. "This is all to do with the people so that's what I'm stoked about the most."
Noll was up against British singer Robbie Williams and Americans Usher and Eminem for the best male category.
