Review: Peter Eley
The first Delta Force was something of a letdown and Novalogic has turned the game around in the sequel.
The clunky original has given way to a beautifully detailed game, made possible by the use of state-of-the-art voxel graphics.
The relentless march of technical requirements has taken a step forwards here, and a Pentium 2 or Celeron is a must, as is 64Mb Ram.
And a 32-bit Direct 3D card such as TNT or ATI Rage is needed to take full advantage of the graphics.
The game revolves around Delta Force, a United States anti-terrorist squad.
It is a mixture of action and strategy, and features an impressive 40 missions in single-player mode.
Multiplayer support is good, and up to 50 players can take part in a single game. It is supported on Novalogic's own server, Novaworld, and on Microsoft's Zone.
It sounds good so far, but there are flaws. This is a tough game to play, with a less-than-intuitive interface needing both mouse and keyboard (using the supplied overlay is a must).
There are some stability problems, too. Although the game can be absorbing, it hits slow patches where nothing seems to be going on.
