We have always got on really well with our daughter’s in-laws and often catch up socially. But now our children are going through an ugly divorce, our friendship with the in-laws has suffered, and I feel bad.

: Friendships are very fragile, and always have to be handled carefully, and unfortunately it is not your fault that your daughter is separating, but when things go ugly, it is only normal that each parent will side with their child. It is a no-brainer. Maybe down the track, when it is over, you can reconnect.
