David and Victoria Beckham have both shared heartfelt birthday messages to their 'special girl' Harper on Instagram.

The youngest of the Beckham children celebrates her fifth birthday today and in a heart-warming message the former England captain wrote: "Happy birthday to my Pretty Lady.

"In 5 years baby Harper has brought so much love into our family ... Such a special girl in so many different ways we are so lucky to spend each day with such a beautiful soul ... We adore you baby girl happy birthday love Daddy @victoriabeckham."

Earlier this year, the former footballer discussed parenting in an interview with Entertainment Tonight (ET), joking he'll be a lot stricter with his daughter than his three boys.

"Obviously Brooklyn is definitely at that age," he said.

"We're strong parents, and strict parents, but we're like most parents. We love our kids and we want the best for them, so we'll see."

Discussing Harper he said: "Oh yeah. That'll definitely be different!"

He previously revealed: "To have a daughter is a whole different story. I'm not saying I love my daughter more, but the boys are independent.

"She's not going out. She's going to be like Rapunzel - up in the tower."

In another interview with ET, he said: "I have no power with that little girl - no power whatsoever.

"I love all my children, of course, equally but I'm definitely stricter with the boys than I am Harper, which gets me in trouble with my wife of course."

Meanwhile, their oldest son Brooklyn has just passed his driving test and has been seen driving a top-of-the-range new car.
