KEY POINTS:
Three friends from Wellington have kick-started an internet phenomenon with a website celebrating the joys of fatherhood.
DIYFather.com, started in 2007, attracts more than 100,000 hits a month from 156 countries.
It was started by Stefan Korn, Scott Lancaster and Eric Mooij after they struggled to find parenting advice geared towards men when their partners became pregnant at a similar time.
Korn, 39, who runs a web investment company and is dad to 21-month-old Noah, said many parenting books and websites were patronising towards men or portrayed them as ignorant and clumsy. "It sucked, so we decided to do something about it."
The website's success has inspired a spinoff book, Call Me Dad, covering pregnancy, childbirth and baby's first year.
Korn said being involved with routines such as bathing and feeding will help fathers have a great bond with their kids.
