"This thing has already kept her out of the road and from sticking her hand in an ice cream machine, along with keeping me sane.
"Because the fact is, if I didn't put Aspen on a leash while at amusement parks, the zoo, a crowded mall, or the farmers market, she'd be the lost child announced over the intercom," Edwards said.
Other parents had much to say about the leash, which one commenting: "I used to be pretty judgy about those things. Then I had kids. Keep on keepin' on, man."
Another said: "Until those judgmental people have a runner or as you describe a child with a wild streak. They will never understand."
However one said: "Putting your child on a leash says a lot about your knowledge of parenting, discipline and unrealistic value of safety parameters and you should be judged."
The post, which has had over 13,000 likes, explains that Aspen's curiosity is "incredible" and that she moves as fast as an Olympian.
"I'm going to do whatever I can to keep her out of danger, even if it means a leash," Edwards wrote.
"Aspen doesn't mind wearing the reins at all," Edwards told the Sun Online.
"It's actually better for her considering she is prone to nursemaid's elbow.
"The harness lets her wander a bit without the strain of holding onto her arm and possibly dislocating her elbow."
