Couple defends having sex while baby was still in the room

A well-known Australian artist who revealed she has sex with her husband while their young son is in the same room has defended their bedroom habit.

Sally Mustang and her husband Mitch Gobel welcomed son Azure Sitara Mustang, now 5 months old, in February.

But while Sally has built up a legion of followers because of their "free-spirited" lifestyle in Byron Bay, her recent post detailing how she "makes love" to her husband while Azure was in the room has copped some criticism.

Sally, who has deleted the post, addressed the backlash in an Instagram Stories post, saying she was "sorry" her revelation had upset anyone, particularly those who had been affected by sexual trauma.

"Please note I have worked and studied a lot with sex and sexual trauma. In no way am I subjecting my son to this so if you have had a hard story when it comes to sexuality I'm really sorry this happened for (sic) you and I'm sending you love from my heart," she said.

She went on to explain that for her and Mitch, the term "making love" was an umbrella word that referenced "making out, massage and anything me and Mitch define as love together".

"When I say Azure was present I also mean, that he is asleep, moved to the other side of the bed, he could be playing on the rug with his toys while we are away on the couch," she continued, explaining their home was open plan so was essentially "one big room".

"We don't sit him down and make him watch us AT ALL."

Her original post discussed how having sex with a child in the room was something that had a line "drawn" through it by society, a point she reiterated in her apology.

"I was encouraging freedom in a way, big apologies for the triggers, and if I hurt someone's feelings with my post."

Backlash to the bedroom admission had been fierce, with some stating sex was an "adult topic" too complex for children to be exposed to, Daily Mail Australia reported.

"Imagine if he came to you at eight years old and said he was ready to have sex, because sex was such an open topic in your household," one woman said.

The couple first gained a following online in 2015 when Sally began documenting intimate details about their relationship.

However, their Instagram fame hasn't been smooth sailing, with Sally admitting last year she was "scared" for her future after her account was deleted for posting a "sexual" photo of her baby bump.

The image, which reportedly showed her naked in a bath while displaying her blossoming bump, was flagged for being "sexual" – despite her chest being covered with her hands – and led to the account being shut down.

A similar situation occurred in 2016 when a post on her account was compared to a chapter taken out of Fifty Shades Of Grey.

It was reported for being explicit and swiftly deleted.
