By EIRLYS HUNTER
Edith flicked back her dreadlocks and laughed; she had a loud, infectious laugh that Finn didn't think fitted with her clumpy boots and pierced nose.
"It's all right, it's only on my arm. Quite decent. See?" She pulled up her sleeve to reveal a dark blue zigzag band around her white skin.
"Cost a fortune. Joe likes it -- don't you babe?"
"It's beautiful. Make us some toast, eh Finn? I'm starving. We came in her to refuel, but I got distracted."
"Dad hasn't been shopping. Again. There's no bread."
Finn looked in the cupboard. "It'll have to be pasta spirals . . . if you don't mind shifting so I can get a saucepan out."
When Bill had first been made redundant two months ago, he'd acted like someone on holiday -- he'd finished decorating Finn's room and taken over doing the laundry, shopping and cooking.
However, that had gradually tailed off, and all he did now was sit at the computer, not really working, just surfing the internet or sending messages to people.
"When's Mum back?" asked Finn.
"Friday night. I'll grate some cheese."
Joe took his hand out from under Edith's jumper and reached for the grater.
"Not till Friday! We'll starve."
