The trick is to make them fun, and the Clue Finders series is shaped around adventures where children must solve maths, science and language problems to advance.
In 6th Grade Adventures, children have to enter the empire of the Plant people, where a giant mutant army of fruit and veges plans to destroy the town above.
Tasks include finding chemical combinations to remove deadly pollutants and building a word ladder to climb a cliff.
You may have seen similar puzzles in full-blown adventure games like Zork and Myst.
New to The Learning Company education titles is a dynamic system that adjusts the pace of the programme to match a child's ability.
It's called ADAPT and tracks progress, automatically adjusting levels up or down according to ability and providing help where needed.
Required: Any Pentium, 16Mb Ram or a Power PC Mac, with system 7.1 or better and 16Mb Ram.
