"Have you heard the news?" said Sophie Powers to her best friend Helen Murray, as the two girls walked down to the bus stop on their way to school.
"About Rhona McVeighÕs Fancy Dress Disco?" said Helen, glumly.
Sophie shook her head. "About Mrs Trollope."
Mrs Trollope wa their history teacher. She was very old-fashioned and had an amazing knack of making whatever she taught so boring, it was almost impossible not to fall asleep.
This term they were doing a project on Cleopatra and as far as Helen was concerned, the whole thing was as dry as an Egyptian desert.
"What about her?"
"She fell off a ladder and broke both her legs," said Sophie in a rush. "So there's a new teacher starting this morning. Aunt Mary told me."
