Review: Peter Eley
One of the great games is showing its age. In fact, it isn't standing up to the test of time.
It looks great at first glance - the original game has been expanded with a greater technology tree, more units and a new interface.
On top of that are two new worlds - Midgard, a fantasy realm inhabited by elfs and the like, and the Universe of Lalande 21185, set in a future galaxy.
The bottom line is that the core game doesn't go much further than Civilization 2, and the add-ons don't cut it with Might and Magic or Alpha Centauri.
On top of that, turn-based map graphics do look terribly tired. In fact, is the whole turn-based genre a bit stale?
