Renzo Piano: Piece by Piece. Tonight at 6.30.
Architect Piano's buildings, from the inside-out design for the Pompidou Centre in Paris to his extraordinary constructions in New Caledonia, have often bewildered the public but been acclaimed by his peers. This 75-minute documentary looks at the architect and his philosophies.
Bob Marley: Live in Concert. Tonight at 9; Thursday March 2, 6.30 pm.
Because this is mostly late-period concert footage - some from a concert months before his death where he looks gaunt yet possessed of some inner fire - this is one for aficionados. There is a righteous power here and the scenes from his funeral are moving.
McLibel: Two Worlds Collide. Monday Feb 21, 8 pm.
A study of the McDonalds chain as two activists, David Morris and Helen Steele, attempt to bring issues of worker exploitation, alleged cruelty to animals and the destruction of the rainforests into the public domain, while the company's spin-doctors try to keep a lid on things.
Better Living Through Circuitry. Thursday Feb 24; 6.30 pm, Thursday March 2, 9 pm.
Interesting doco about the United States rave scene, which has uncanny parallels with hippie-era docos on similar happenings. Here again are young people extolling the virtues of their music, and adults with short hair saying the kids are all right. Some big names among the DJs and artists interviewed (Crystal Method, Roni Size, DJ Spooky), useful consideration of the poster and flyer art, and plenty of techno and good vibes. Look at the colours, man. Again.
Cinema from Renzo to rave
