KEY POINTS:
Karen Walker fans were distraught when they found out earlier this year that her diffusion line, Hi There, was only available at Australian department store Myer. Cry no more, however, the range is now here in New Zealand.
The cheerily named range is priced at a more affordable level than Walker's main line, with garments ranging from $119 to $239. This is good news for those who love Walker's signature aesthetic but may not be able to afford to buy her more expensive pieces. The other exciting news is that each month there will be a new mini collection introduced - adding to the range.
"Every month's drop is about what you want right now and about doing something new and then moving on," explains Walker. "That allows us to keep the range quite limited despite the fact that it's mass. It means there's only going to be about 10 of a style per store and there's new styles coming in almost every week. Nothing's going to be hanging about and the store's going to be different every time you come in."
Pieces from the range are fresh variations on popular pieces from past collections. "With the main Karen Walker ranges, they're so much about being at the leading edge that two years pass and the work's actually still completely relevant and modern," says Walker.
So is this range a response to the ever-increasing world of fast fashion? "The modern fashion lover doesn't just shop at Prada or YSL - they shop high and low. We've been doing high and low for a while but this takes it much further."
