Cher will include NZ in goodbye tour

Pop, screen and fashion legend Cher has been confirmed for two New Zealand concerts in February.

The age-defying 58 year-old has been confirmed to say her first hello to this country as part of her global Farewell Tour. She then heads to Australia for what she says will be her final shows.

"My Downunder shows will be very emotional because that is where it will end," she said in a statement announcing the concerts.

It's been a very long goodbye to the live stage for the singer - the Farewell dates stretch back to 2002.

Cher's pop career stretches back to the early sixties and her recording and television partnership with her then husband Sonny Bono.

Known for her outlandish dress sense, especially at award ceremonies, Cher's acting career peaked in the late 80s when she won the best actress Oscar for Moonstruck.

Her other notable roles have included The Witches of Eastwick, Mask, Silkwood and Mermaids.

Musically, she's pop's comeback queen having had hit records in all the decades since she first became a star, the latest being the hit dance anthem Believe.

Cher and band will play at North Harbour Stadium on Sunday February 20 -she's one of the few international headliners playing in Auckland this summer -and a second show at Christchurch on Tuesday February 22.Tickets go on sale on November 8.
