Auckland actor Charlie McDermott counts fashion, art and design mementos among his favourite things.
Described as the "general malarkey and high five administrator" for The Basement theatre, Charlie McDermott is currently performing on stage at the Auckland underground theatre as part of the cast of Mojo. The actor is joined by a gang of other young male acting talent, including David Van Horn, Ian Hughes and Sam Snedden, in the local adaptation of the dark British play that inspired Guy Ritchie's Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. McDermott talks us through his favourite things, from fashion to art.

10 FAVOURITE THINGS
1. Huffer leather jacket
I wore this on stage when I played a rent boy in Silo Theatre's The Little Dog Laughed two years ago, before it was released in the shops. That made me feel cool, and it still does.
2. Elliot Stewart's (aka Deus) street art
As seen around town - and on the walls of my house, since he is nice enough to do commissions. They are ethereal and other-worldly, with an edge. And the level of detail he can get with a spraycan is phenomenal.
3. Gun lamp designed by Philippe Starck
Just cool. Now that I have a hallway, we just need a hall table to put it on. All in good time.
4. Naveya & Sloane jewellery
Newly launched in Auckland, my fiancee loves these detailed, feminine pieces that feel timeless. And the box the pieces come in are a work of art in themselves.
5. Pickyourshoes.com
The only way to add to my sneaker collection at a fraction of the price. I'm really into Alife, a New York label whose sneakers are hard to track down here. I have ones with fluoro green on them. Rad.
6. Ikea
Because we can't always afford the high-end stuff we want. The Disneyland of homeware stores is now attainable in New Zealand, thanks to mykeaonline.co.nz. Visiting the actual Ikea stores is a bit like going to casinos though; no clocks or natural light, and you really need a sit down afterwards.
7. Conch record shop, Ponsonby Rd
Burlesque prints, records and dope figurines - plus it's got great coffee and a sunny spot outside in which to talk rubbish and while away the hours.
8. Pink deer head
We bought this solid brass deer head for $20 from The Legend of the Seeker sale when they wrapped up the series, and spraypainted it pink.
9. Le Creuset cookware
You've got to have a bad-ass casserole dish. They're heavy as hell and a big investment, but my mother-in-law to be has been using hers for 20 years.
10. An original Banksy
It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine ... when I have a spare $500,000 lying around.
