The Dunedin public will have a chance to look behind the walls of the Chinese garden next week.
Chinese Garden Trust secretary-treasurer Malcolm Wong said the Dunedin Central Rotary Club had organised the tours for next Monday and would be the guides on the day.
Entry would be a gold coin donation between 10.30am and 2.30pm.
Mr Wong said the trust had been planning on allowing the public to see the 45 Chinese artisans at work.
The garden was about three months away from completion.
In recent weeks, the majority of the work had been in completing the perimeter wall, the 'grottos' in the artificial hill and tiling, he said.
The grottos were an important part of Chinese mythology, which says that immortals visit the garden grottos at night, he said.
The council is advertising for a manager for the Chinese garden.
Mr Wong said the manager would be paid out of the operating budget for the garden and would be employed by the council.
The inaugural manager would need to meet visitor number and revenue targets, the advertisement said.
Being able to speak Mandarin would also be an advantage.
