Jessica Simpson
About ten years ago, the singer/reality star recognised her stock was on the slide so she set up a fashion line, Jessica Simpson Collection, which now has over 30 product categories, including a shoe line, sunglasses and jewellery.
Simpson has emerged as a fashion mogul with her brand making about A$1.27 billion (NZD$1.35b) a year at retail - a hell of a lot better than a has-been.
Jessica Alba
Alba and Simpson share more than a name, with Alba's eco-friendly baby and household product firm, The Honest Company, matching Simpson's dollar for dollar.
It's been so successful, Alba is considering winding down her acting career as she sets her sights on expanding into beauty and feminine care items.
Natalie Bassingthwaighte
The Aussie singer/actress and reality show judge launched her children's clothing line Chi Khi just a few months before it was revealed she wouldn't be asked back on the Australian X Factor judging panel this year.
Chi Khi is designer wear for children and it's certainly not cheap, with rompers selling for about $70. But with the Bassingthwaighte name on it, it's likely to be a hit and some of those $70 rompers have already sold out.
Jennifer Garner
The actress has certainly been crafty in what she puts her name to. Garner has partnered up with Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, the largest fabrics and crafts retailer in the US, on a new line of creative children's kits and projects.
A portion of the profits go to Save the Children, which helps needy children in the US.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwynnie has been queen of the lifestyle blog with Goop, her one-stop shop for everything overpriced. She's copped a lot of flak for promoting things such as a bland grey throw for US$900, a US$1500 enamel skull pendant and sunscreen which costs US$48.
Last year, Radar Online reported the website was "in crisis" despite making money from Groupon promotions and product sales.
Reese Witherspoon
It seems Paltrow's paltry results haven't put Witherspoon off having a go. Her own offering, Draper James, sells homewares, fashion and accessories inspired by her southern American upbringing. Can I get a "yee-ha"?
However, her collection of US$85 "Southern Sayings" cocktail napkins has many fearful she's heading down the Paltrow path.
Blake Lively
Lively launched Preserve, her lifestyle blog, at a time in her life where she may otherwise have been at a loose end.
The actress had just wrapped filming on her popular teen show, Gossip Girl, and decided to release a website based on her love of cooking, homewares and zzzzzzzzzzz....sorry, it's all just getting a little boring.
She's so down-to-earth, she's just like us blah blah blah.
The site is essentially no different to Paltrow's or Witherspoon's, which are basically just places to buy overpriced items. In Lively's case we have an impractical crystal bowl for US$615, or you could always shell out US$136 for just one pillow.
